When I graduated college, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my business degree. Scratch that. During college I also had no idea what I wanted to do. I knew that I was interested in marketing as well as some aspects of HR. (Hence why I did concentrations in both of these areas.) The thought of picking just one of these routes in my career was so daunting though. So...I took the easy way out and let my career kind of pick itself. Wherever I got an opportunity is how I decided what I would ultimately do. I interned at two great companies in college doing HR-related work. So naturally, post-grad I ended up focusing on searching for HR-related work again. I also barely interviewed with new companies. Maybe that was a little bit of laziness, maybe it was because I felt safe sticking to familiar faces. And that's how I fell into the trap of going through the motions and not really casting my net as wide as I could have. I've worked for several well-known companies in the Seattle area since my intern days. Companies that I was really proud to have on my resume. Then one day something clicked in my brain and I realized that's not the shit that matters. It didn't even really truly … [Read more...]
2017 Memories & Gratitude List
I'm fairly sure I say this every year but isn't it crazy how fast 2017 went by? I remember celebrating the new year like it was yesterday. Even though so much goodness happened this year it was also very difficult in some aspects. To close out the past year, here are some good memories and things I'm grateful for. - Spending New Year's day by going to Snoqualmie Falls (it was snowy!) and going to IHOP and Target afterwards. (The highlight was going to Target obviously.) - Living in Jared and I's first apartment together. (We just moved into a new apartment though!) - Spontaneously deciding to go to London for a week with Jared. It was on this trip that I learned just how strange, yet wonderful, it is to be a tourist in a new city by yourself. I also ate at sit down restaurants by myself for the first time here. - Going to Canada for my birthday and eating ALL the food. - Okay, I guess a lot of these are going to be travel related so in general all of the travel this year was pretty amazing. London, Canada, Leavenworth, Vegas, Hawaii, Yakima, and Portland.- Getting gifted tickets to Yayoi Kusama's exhibit at the SAM. This was one of the most amazing art exhibits … [Read more...]
November Goals + What’s to Come
Hi!! Every time I'm not around for more than a week I feel like it's been ages. I'm so happy to be posting something today, although it's probably going to be brief. Since it's the beginning of a new month I thought it was perfect timing to share some updates with you guys. I also wanted to share some of my short term goals for the rest of this year. (I can't believe I'm writing that omg but today is November 1st after all.) They kind of tie into what's to come and will give you some insight into what to expect on the blog in the upcoming weeks. November Goals -Go apartment hunting! (Jared and I are hoping to move back into the city. We love the idea of being walking distance to restaurants, shopping, and parks. Unfortunately living in the city is expensive and apartments are much smaller for the price that we pay on the east side.) -Downsize. For years I have had a problem with hoarding clothing, beauty products, and things around the house. Not to the extent of Hoarders the TV show but I hang onto things even when I know I'll never wear it again or use it. I'm forcing myself to throw things out, donate, sell, and even gift. My most recent discovery has been Buy Nothing … [Read more...]
