Hi guys. I was going to publish a post today about my favorite travel websites but that's going to have to wait. As you know, on Sunday evening there was a horrific tragedy in Las Vegas. I feel angry and I feel hopeless. But it's not about what I feel in reaction to events such as Sunday evening. It's about what I choose to do - my actions in response to this and any other tragedies. Many bloggers, celebrities, and friends that I follow on social media took to their platforms to share how to help. Many shared their emotions. Some wrote they were keeping Vegas in their prayers. I've thought long and hard about what I want to say about this. It's not easy and I am not really going to sugarcoat it, so if I offend you that's not my intention however I sincerely apologize. My goal is to provide some food for thought and start a conversation. If you are a praying person, please do pray. If you aren't and you don't actually intend on praying, it's okay to use your hurt and anger in another way. Call your representatives. Donate blood. Truthfully, I think we all just feel helpless in tragedies - especially when they aren't in our communities. So we do what's easy. We publicly … [Read more...]
Should You Put Your Blog on Your Resume? Here’s Why I Did.
Unless you help people write resumes for a living, can we all agree that resumes aren't fun? Don't even get me started on cover letters. As recruiting practices evolve, so do the best practices when it comes to writing resumes. Should you keep it to one page? At what point do you remove your high school activities? There are so many questions! When I started my blog as a sophomore in college that also threw me for a loop. I wasn't sure if companies would really take my hobby seriously and wondered how it would impact me as a candidate. Over three years later, I'm realizing that there is no right answer to this question. I can't tell you if you should or shouldn't put your blog on your resume, but I can share with you why I personally did. It was applicable to the industry I was interested in. This is probably the most common reason for people putting their creative hobby/side hustle on their resume. Despite what you may think, there are lots of bloggers who work in industries that are far from creative. When you don't have a creative day job, sometimes it helps to have that creative outlet for after hours. I'm always working with data in Excel in my day job so blogging helps … [Read more...]
Life Lately: Events and a Few June Favorites
Happy Thursday!! I'm ecstatic that it's almost the weekend. After several busy weekends and being out of town I'm looking forward to one with little on the agenda. Since nothing too exciting should be happening this weekend, I figured I'd give you guys a life update from the past weeks. After all, I think you'd rather not hear about me going to Costco and doing all the adult things one must do after weeks of slacking. Visiting Molly Moon's HQ Anyone who knows me or just follows me on social media knows that I'm an ice cream lover. My favorite local Seattle ice cream shop, Molly Moon's, is so gracious to have invited me to their shop openings in the past. (I recapped the Redmond store opening here.) When they invited me to their newly designed headquarters in Capitol Hill to preview the new seasonal summer flavors, I was like DUH!!! Cocktails made with ice cream, delicious small bites, and tasting all the ice cream was just as fun as it sounds. There are some exciting and unique flavors coming involving ingredients like cheesecake and goat milk so get excited! As you can tell, the inside of the HQ space is gorgeous. Just ask Jared, I literally could not stop saying "it's so … [Read more...]
