It has been a while since I wrote a beauty blog post so I’m really excited to be writing one today! Testing beauty products is so much fun to me so a goal of mine is to share more beauty posts. As much as I enjoy testing new things, I tend to be a creature of habit when it comes to my everyday makeup. When you’re not a morning person, doing your makeup before work can be a challenge! I could always forgo makeup to sleep more but the truth is I just like makeup too much to give it up! I do, however, try to switch the products out regularly otherwise I’d never get to test the new products. Here’s what’s in my current rotation and what I’ve been using everyday as of late.
Face
Sunscreen: Although this isn’t makeup, wearing sunscreen daily is something I learned from my mom at a young age. I also LOVE this sunscreen so much. The sweet founder of Alchimie Forever, Ada, is also someone I look up to and am happy to support. This sunscreen smells delicious and is really light on the skin. I love that it’s not greasy at all. For those of you that hate sunscreen, this is the sunscreen that will make you a believer I swear. Not only does it protect your skin from UV rays, it is good for your skin too.
Primer: Okay, I’m not going to pretend I’m put together enough to use primer everyday. But when I do remember to use primer, I’m using this IPKN primer. I love how it smells and the packaging is nice and simple. I don’t think it’s the most mattifying primer I’ve used but it does help my foundation go on smoother and fills in pores.
Foundation: My days with this foundation are probably numbered however it’s been great for the past few weeks. It’s quite a liquidy consistency so you have to be careful with applying it. I also find that a brush is best for application because it soaks up less product and helps build up coverage. (I’m obsessed with Real Techniques sponges but this brush is also amazing and my brush of choice for this foundation.) A PR team sent me this Bare Minerals brush to apply the foundation with but to be honest, it takes too long sometimes. It’s a great brush though.
The coverage of this foundation is really good – it’s medium and easily buildable. If I need more coverage, I usually just apply a thin second layer on top of a problem area instead of concealer. The reason why I think my days are numbered with this is because as the weather changes, I’ll probably need something more matte. Even with a powder, this tends to get a bit too dewy by midday.
Bronzer: Hoola is the most universal bronzer I swear! It’s such a great formula because it’s not chalky and goes on super smooth. For those of you that are scared of harsh contours, this is a pretty foolproof product to lightly sculpt your face. I like how this warms up my face without making me look orange. Pro tip: Get the mini size because it’s only $15 and it’ll still last you a while!
Highlighter: Another Benefit favorite of mine..this highlighter is very natural and gives you the perfect amount of glow. Unlike some liquid highlighters this blends out easily and it doesn’t have that chunky, obnoxious glitter. You look naturally dewy and it doesn’t feel sticky like frosting on your cheek. Also, this mini size I have is freakin adorable. You can get the mini here.
Blush: This has been my go-to blush for probably a year now because it’s perfect for every season, it’s long lasting, and I also love how big the mirror is in the compact! Marc Jacobs Beauty has seriously beautiful packaging and even the inside is pretty. You can use the lighter shade as more of a highlight but usually I just swirl the colors together to use on my cheeks. I never used to be a big fan of blush but giving your face some more color on top of the bronzer really makes you look more awake!
Concealer: Amazing Cosmetics is one of those brands that everyone loves and is a cult favorite. When I got sent a few items to try out from the team, I was really excited because I can always use a good concealer. I’m no stranger to dark spots and my skin is really thin (weird, I know) so you can see my veins on my cheek and under my eyes. I don’t always use concealer on these areas but sometimes I do and only something as heavy coverage as this concealer does the trick. It stays all day, just remember to set it with some powder.
Setting Powder: Speaking of which, this is one of my favorite products I’ve ever purchased. The loose powder can get kind of messy but generally the packaging is good at just dispensing powder when you shake it upside down. It doesn’t make you look cakey at all but sets your makeup really naturally. My mom uses the pressed version and loves it!
Eyes
I don’t use eyeshadow on a daily basis but if anyone’s interested I will share some of my most used shadows and palettes another time!
Eyeliner: I recently started using this liner that I received from the Nordstrom K-Beauty pop-in. The packaging isn’t my favorite because the product either oozes out too much or not enough when you click it. It does stay on forever however. The brown shade has been nice because it’s natural looking. (I think the Glam Rock eyeliner is sold out now but you can check out other Too Cool for School products here. I’m obsessed with their egg cream masks.)
Mascara: I swear by drugstore mascara and will almost always choose drugstore over high end. I love anything Maybelline and have tried every single mascara they make! This month I’m using this yellow version. If your eyelashes don’t stay curled, use waterproof. It comes off easily with a good oil based makeup remover so you don’t have to be nervous about waterproof formulas.
Eyebrows: No one make fun of me but this Anastasia pencil I have been using is so dated that the packaging is totally ancient! I don’t fill in my brows a crazy amount because I don’t like harsh looking brows. Maybe that’s why it takes me forever to use up brow products?? Anyway, your pencil may look different than mine hehe but this stuff is so good. It lasts all day even if you’re sweaty or oily. The taupe color is nice and natural.
Lips
Lip balm: I’m really bad at using lip products. 99% of the time I only wear lip balm and this is my go to. Otherwise, I use good old Vaseline because I’m super fancy like that. I have a million lip products but this is just what I wear regularly. Maybe next month I’ll start wearing more lip color.
Also I think I’ll do a skincare post soon as I’ve been testing a few new products too. If you want to see the last skincare routine I posted, check it out here. I reviewed my Clarisonic Mia in that post! I still use it daily and can’t imagine washing my face without it now to be honest.
